Goldenrod

Goldenrod marks the last hurrah of Summer at the verge of Autumn. The bees are feasting, it’s their last flourish of flowers before colder days. The feast of nectar and pollen is a welcome sight to our bumbly friends.

I happen to be sensitive/allergic to honeybees, but I stand by save the bees or lose your knees. I saw that in a meme once and have never let it go. I shall save the bees...from afar.

Goldenrod gets a bad rap, most people associate it with allergies. To which you’d be half right, as the notorious Ragweed causing most people’s seasonal allergies grows right beside her. But correlation is not causation and we love her despite her rather toxic taste in close friends.

My favorite science class in high school, Marine Bio, taught me on field trips to the marshes that she loves to grow in what is known as the “wetland buffer,” which is the area within 100 feet of bodies of water or wetlands.

For anyone wondering, this is a reproduction colonial herb knife from Williamsburg, VA.

Do you have Goldenrod near where you live? 💛
